September is here to the crafters’ delight.
They push open the door, Passports in hands
Greeted by shop owners, staff and fiber loving friends.
The dates of the tour have been thought out and planned.
The celebration of craft and fiber lovers is finally here.
The patterns for each shop are shiny and ready to go; for travelers that earn the passport stamp with things that they love.
Oh wait! What is that this year?
You can get a progressive pattern block gift for just visiting the shop?
Count me in! I am touring this year!

Thanks for being here!

Welcome to Prismatic!

Picture
Picture
We are a yarn shop that offers more than yarn. We provide classes, workshops, clubs, and community. We teach one on one knit, crochet, spinning, weaving, and needle felting. Our workshops change monthly. If you are unable to make the designated time, just call us. We will find a time that works for everyone.

Looking for something to do on Friday nights? Our Friday Fiber Club meets at 5pm! Bring your fiber projects, a snack/drink, friend and socialize with other fiber artists.

Looking for a purpose? We teach Knitted Knockers for free. Our group meets the last Saturday of every month 1pm-4pm. We carry yarn for both Knitted Knockers and Knots of Love.  We always have something going on. Check out our website to keep up with it all: www.PrismaticFiberArts.com
About the Owner
While Sam was taught to crochet by family when she was young, she didn’t really realize the fiber rabbit hole until 2022. This is when she learned how to spin, weave, knit, and needle felt. She was hooked!

As a previous Occupational Therapy Assistant, she knew the benefits art can bring to mental health. She wanted to bring this experience to the community, therefore she opened a yarn shop October 2024. This is not just something that passes the time but is a healthy way to live.
Picture
Prismatic Fiber Arts is a new yarn shop in Green/Uniontown, Ohio, which opened in October 2024. Their logo bursting with color and cuteness represents the love of vibrant colors and wool. The lamb in the logo is their mascot, who has been named Lisa Frank.

Prismatic is located in an office building, 3570 Executive Dr Suite 105 Uniontown, OH 44685. Go in the front doors, turn right, past the men’s room, and down the hall to the left. Call/Text 330-961-1285, Hours: M&W: 12-8, TH&F: 10-8, Sa:10-4 (Closed Tue & Sun)

The Progressive Pattern Project: New this year on the Yarn Discovery Tour

The Northeast Ohio Yarn Discovery Tour runs for 20 days every September and has been a cherished event in our crafting community for the last 17 years. But even traditions deserve an occasional update, and the participating shops of the YDT are working hard to add a new twist to our shop hop this year.

As we have done in the past, participants are invited to buy a passport ($10) and visit as many of our shops as they choose during the Tour. The new twist is that with your passport purchase, we will be including a pattern to make either a simple knit or crocheted block, and instructions for projects that can be made from it like a blanket, bag, pillow, or top. The initial block will be the very simplest pattern for either craft, welcoming beginners to join along.

At each shop during the Tour, simply present your passport to receive another knit and crochet block pattern, no purchase needed. Each shop will have samples of their blocks worked up in yarns they carry as a suggestion for you. If you make a purchase of at least $10 in the store, you will also get to choose a free knit or crochet pattern, have your passport stamped and be entered into the raffle for that store’s prize basket.
Picture
The Progressive Patterns are written to make blocks of similar size as long as you use similar yarns and tools throughout. There will be a variety of skill levels, but the aim is to be friendly to our beginners and fun for our experienced crafters. You get to choose which or how many of the patterns to include in your project and can include only knit or only crochet or both types of blocks as you choose. With 18 stores participating and the initial basic blocks with your passport purchase, there are a total of 38 blocks to choose from if you visit every shop! If you visit fewer shops, you can repeat and alternate the blocks you collect in your project.

We are hoping to see your projects before the 2026 YDT by inviting you to post photos of your finished objects on the YDT Ravelry Group thread:
2025 (First ever!) Progressive Pattern Project.

In a Small Town on a Great Lake

Cast On Yarn Studio harbors all things yarn!
Picture
Brenda Miklos opened Cast On in 2017 and has dedicated herself to finding distinctive luxury to budget friendly yarns sourced locally, nationally and internationally. This is no ordinary yarn store, recently Brenda has also started to carry the very popular and collectible Polish Pottery, so even if you don’t knit or crochet there will be something for you to enjoy.

Let me start by telling you about Vermilion OH.

In the 1600’s it was inhabited by the Erie people and was named Vermilion after the red clay that was found in the area. Later it was known as “The City of Sea Captains” and even later became a popular drop off point for liquor coming over from Canada during prohibition. I’ll coin that as the first booze cruise.

When visiting Vermilion, you’ll find a very walkable downtown area including restaurants, shops, a beautiful beach with facilities, a lighthouse at the beach, benches and Adirondack chairs to relax. I like stopping at the coffee house, getting a latte and sitting by the river or beach before going to work at Cast On, hours of which are Tuesday 1-6, Wednesday and Thursday 10-4, Friday and Saturday 10-2.
Now about Cast On.

Cast On Yarn Studio is in the Miklos Center for Health and Wellness just east of downtown at 4550 Liberty Ave. Being in a Health and Wellness building is perfect for Cast On because every time I enter the studio I feel as though I’m in a sanctuary - a yarn sanctuary! The store offers something for everybody. Whether you knit, crochet, spin or have a certain price point, it’s here. Plus, one of the things that I’ve always liked about Brenda is that she carries beautiful accessories and tools. To me knitting is sensory, and I love using beautiful stitch markers, cable needles and project bags. It’s like knitting with jewelry and special treats.

Yarns at Cast On are well organized by weight from lace to super bulky. You will find an array of fibers with quantities for sweaters, socks, blankets, and babywear and of course hand dyed as well, so you can create a truly unique piece.

Polish Pottery, new to Cast On, is a perfect compliment. Yarn bowls, dinnerware, mugs, bakeware and more are all handmade and hand painted in Poland. Polish Pottery is very durable, being microwave, dishwasher and oven safe! Polish Pottery is the perfect compliment to any kitchen and makes a great gift as well.
On Tuesday nights from 4-6pm Ann hosts knit night. It’s a social time where the fiber community can get together and meet new friends while creating treasures. You should join us!
Picture
Now Brenda Miklos.

She is cherished by the community that stops into her shop, truly. She listens to her customers’ needs, is always helpful and kind and cares about everyone. The first time I stopped in was because I was drawn to yarns she had on display, but I didn’t think I could knit the project. I’m a classically trained weaver, dyer, spinner - a typical fiber/textile artist but never got the hang of knitting by hand. I held these beautiful yarns and said, “I don’t think I can do this”. Brenda simply looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Sure you can!” That was that. Her words gave me confidence. I knit the poncho, and I still wear it!

Please stop by, find a new project for yourself or a special person and enjoy charming Vermilion.

10 Years of Cornbread and Honey !

Celebrate with us on LYS Day!
Picture
I cannot believe it's been 10 years since I started dyeing. So much has happened in 10 years. 10 years ago I was looking for a distraction. Most people would have looked at my life then and say why??? I had 5 children and was pregnant with a 6th.  But my best friend Basil was dying and I was heartbroken. I had seen some beautiful yarn on Etsy and I thought I could do that.  After lots of research and trial and error,  I did just that.  I really wanted to dye yarn for my crochet projects. I didn't anticipate people wanting to buy what I dyed but they did.
Picture
Basil, my chocolate lab, did pass away and I was devastating and I threw myself into dyeing. Beauty came from heartbreak.

Dyeing helped me heal. Dyeing helped me through everything the past 10 years. It is my therapy, my passion. I love creating new colorways and dyeing old favorites. I love creating new custom colorways to help bring my customers visions to life.   Over 10 years I have developed my own techniques for dyeing and the results have been gorgeous.
Picture
18 months ago I took a large leap and opened a yarn shop. We had no yarn shops in our area and no shops close. We had crafters with no LYS. I also wanted my house back. The yarn dyeing had taken over my whole house and the garage. Some of my kids had never seen our house without the yarn. It was time for a major change.
Cornbread and Honey Yarn Apothecary was born!
Over the past 18 months I have added new products from lots of your favorite brands including our own cold processed soap and our lotion bars but Cornbread and Honey hand dyed is the heart and the core of what I do. I still do tons of trunk shows and a few festivals but you'll see everything when you walk in the doors. You'll be able to see what I do on a daily basis. I have a working shop where I do everything right in front of you from dyeing, twisting, tagging, winding yarn for customers, packing trunk shows, packaging items, computer work and much more.
Picture
Our Fiber Addicts group meets 3x a week. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. I have lots of crocheters and of course knitters. We love meeting new people so come and craft with us. Our shop is completely inclusive. Bring whatever brand yarn you want, bring whatever craft you want, be yourself when you come in because you will see me being me.  There is also an amazing gluten free bakery next door...just saying.

To celebrate our 10 years of dyeing I have curated 4 advent boxes for this year. Our theme is Life's a Beach. The 4 boxes are Seashell, Beach Lighthouse, Island Summer and Blue Lagoon.

Picture
You can find the Advents here... https://www.cornbreadandhoney.com/store/p1467/2025advent.html
Keep a watch for those savings code for the advent all year long.
I can't wait for you to see our shop! Our regular hours are:
Wednesday 11am-4pm
Friday 11am-4pm
Saturday 11am-4pm
Sunday 11am-3pm

I will have extended hours during the YDT.

I am available by appointment on my closed days. Please send me an email at [email protected] or call 440.667.4362 to schedule your visit. We can also host your retreat groups as well.

I'm so excited to see you on our first Yarn Discovery Tour. I'll see you soon!

Happy Birthday To Ewe!

For Ewe Turns Three
Picture
The Journey:
My Grandma taught me how to crochet when I was five. Being creative became my destiny. When I wasn’t playing with a hook and string, I was playing actual strings – I started playing violin at age 8. On a chance encounter with a lady knitting on a crowded bus, I expanded my sticks and strings repertoire even further. Here I was: an 11 year old bi-craftual violinist, ready to take on the world.

Life brought on many changes as I grew up, but sticks and strings were a constant. I had a professional performing and teaching career in music for 35+ years. Marriage and children were in the mix as well and many times knitting ebbed and flowed around my busy life.

And then my mom got sick.
I knit to stay busy. I knit to relax. I knit to keep the fear of losing her at bay.
I knit at her bedside as she left me. And then I knit my way through my grief for a whole year – 52 projects worth.
Knitting saved my life and changed me forever.

Picture
Picture
The Dream:
One day after a really bad day at a job I knew I should leave, I mused aloud about opening a yarn shop. Six months later I lost my job. Nine months later we were in the middle of a global pandemic.
Sounds like the perfect time to start a small business, right?
Actually, it was. I had time to think, take business classes, and make plans. And dream. Lots of time to dream.
From all that came For Ewe 1.0 in our original location.

Picture

Picture
For Ewe: an Inclusive Fiber Community
Picture
Our Yarns
From the beginning, I wanted to stock yarns by small independent companies operated by women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ folks – yarns that folks don’t see everyday – and get them in front of a wider audience.
Picture
Our Community
I wanted our community to reflect the diversity of our little college town and its surrounding area. For Ewe is built on the model of my grandmother’s house: everyone is welcome, loved, and respected just as they are, with a big warm greeting.
For Ewe 2.0: Growing Bigger

In July of 2024, we left our cozy little 400 square foot space – and those prohibitive stairs to the second floor – and moved into a beautiful ground floor location. This meant more room to expand our inventory, our community, and our vision.

What’s next? More education programs, more special guests and events, and more community building and outreach. We look forward to teaching another generation of new crafters as we continue to bring new products to seasoned yarnies.

Our Favorite Things

All around the shop we have samples to showcase our yarn selection and inspire folks to create new and exciting projects. Here are a few of our favorites:

Assigned Pooling
These projects are made with yarns that are dyed 85% in a main color and 15% in a “pop” contrast color. When working the pattern, there is a special stitch pattern that is created when the pop color appears, creating pools of the special colors and textures throughout the project. Best of all, assigned pooling works for both knit and crochet patterns.

Mosaic Knitting
For the folks who are ready to do colorwork beyond stripes, but aren’t quite ready for stranded colorwork, mosaic colorwork is a great entry point. It uses only one color per row/round and slips the stitches of the other color being used. The result can be visually stunning and look a lot more difficult than it actually is.
We are so happy to be part of the Yarn Discovery Tour and its group of independently owned and operated Local Yarn Shops. Each shop is unique and wonderful in its own way. For Ewe is still a new kid on this block, looking up to the big kids. As we celebrate three full years in business, we look forward to welcoming you into the shop and helping you find your next favorite project.

Until then, Keep It Crafty, Y’all.

The Artful Yarn’s Exciting Shop Refresh

A Labor of Love and Creativity

At The Artful Yarn, we believe that creativity and community go hand in hand. Over the years, our cozy shop has been a gathering place for fiber arts enthusiasts, where the tik of needles and the vibrant hues of yarn help inspire your next project. Recently, we embarked on an exciting journey to refresh and revitalize our shop, transforming it into an even more welcoming and inspiring space for our customers.
We closed the shop to take the time update the paint on the walls, put down new carpet, and reimagine the layout of the shop.  Every day we open the shop we’re still excited to have these new colors and layout greet us.  Our goal with the layout was to create a space that was not only visually appealing, but also functional and easy to navigate. Shelves were rearranged, displays were reimagined, and The Loop has been updated for you to come in and work on your project or get some help. The new layout encourages exploration, making it easier for customers to discover hidden gems and find inspiration for their next project.
Picture
The transformation of The Artful Yarn has been a true labor of love. We have spent countless hours brainstorming, planning, and executing our vision, always keeping our customers’ needs and desires at the forefront of our minds. Throughout the process, we have been inspired by the creativity and passion of our community. Seeing the joy on our customers’ faces as they discover the new space has been incredibly rewarding, and it reminds us why we do what we do. The Artful Yarn is more than just a store; it is a place where friendships are forged, skills are shared, and creativity is celebrated.
We are thrilled to invite you to come and experience the refreshed Artful Yarn for yourself. Whether you’re a longtime customer or a first-time visitor, we can’t wait to share our new space with you. Join us in The Loop with your project, browse our new yarns, and let your imagination run wild.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful customers for their continued support. Your enthusiasm and creativity inspire us every day, and we are honored to be a part of your knitting journey. The Artful Yarn’s refresh is a celebration of our community, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

We look forward to welcoming you to our newly refreshed shop and continuing to share the joy of knitting and crochet with you. See you soon at The Artful Yarn!

Spring is here this week!

If you live in northeast Ohio, you probably already know the phrase "if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes". And boy, has that been true lately! We've had balmy 60 degree days followed by snow and wind. It's hard to know if you need a jacket, a shovel, sunglasses, or a vacation!

While I can't deny that the weather has an impact on my crafting choices, I will admit that I rarely knit or crochet something during the season I would be utilizing it. It doesn't help that I'm not a terribly fast knitter or crocheter, and I am not project monogamous. At the moment I've got two cardigans in progress, one knit, one crochet; a mohair cowl; and a blanket shawl. There are other smaller lingering projects, but these are my primary WIPs and the ones I'm most excited about. Are any of these appropriate for spring or summer?? NO! But will I keep plodding away on them! You bet. Hopefully at least one sweater will be done by the time I need it?
On the left, my on-going, never-ending mohair cowl! It's literally just a knit tube that will eventually be folded back on itself. I will then have to graft over 100 stitches together. Ugh! At the moment it is a nicely mindless project. Small, portable, never have to refer to the pattern. Win! (the color is slightly more interesting in person depending on the light)

On the right, an FO that was a fun mashup, both in yarn and craft. I used two GE yarns held together: Eleri (silk/wool) along with Baby Silk Cloud (silk/alpaca). The majority of the hat was crocheted top down. I wanted a more elastic brim, and a friend suggested I just pick up the stitches and knit, so that's what I did! I'm so pleased with how it turned out.
