Grandma always said that you should create with the best you can afford

Unraveling the Art of Yarn, Fiber, and Knitting
Picture
From Threads to Treasures and Historic Memories

My mother and grandmother were artists, not necessarily in the “conventional” way.  They didn’t paint (except interior walls) but they created unbelievable pieces of artwork.

They did this with needles and threads, sewing both clothing (Mom made all five of her daughters and a daughter-in-law’s wedding dresses), quilts (machine and hand stitched), candy making, cake decorating (including wedding cakes), macrame, and, yes, indeed, knitting and crocheting.

Knitting and crocheting has long been celebrated as timeless crafts, meditative pursuits and an art form that blends creativity with functionality. At the heart of these crafts lie the enchanting worl d of yarn and fiber.  Yarn and fiber are more than a material with which we can create garments, toys, socks, purses, washcloths and artwork. It is the backbone of our creativity. The colors, textures, heft and our own skills provide us so many opportunities to find our own artistic bend.   It allows us to create a supremely lacy shawl, perfect for a wedding or one that is perfect for a wonderful fall evening.

So what does Peg’s have for you?

Natural Fibers: We carry beautiful yarns made from wool, cotton, silk, alpaca, and bamboo.  They come in a variety of weights colors and combinations.

Synthetic Fibers: We also carry a variety of acrylic, nylon, and polyester yarns which can offer the artist affordability and durability.  Some are blended with natural fiber to combine the best of both worlds.  Did someone say “sock yarn.”

Roving: We carry beautiful, quality roving, most of which is undyed.  Roving is a unique and versatile material in the crafting world. Some of the roving is a blend and others are from specific kinds of sheep.

Handspun Yarns: Peg is a spinner, which is how she ended up with a shop.  She not only is a prolific knitter, but adores hand dyeing and spinning yarns.  While having a shop has cut into the time she has to dye and spin, but we do have some handspun/handdyed yarns.
What and Where is Peg’s

Peg’s is a small boutique type shop.  We do have a small workspace in the back where we enjoy helping our lovely customers.  We have new knitters who find their chosen pattern overwhelming.  We also have experienced knitters who too can be flummoxed with a pattern.

Peg’s is located in Historic Grand Pacific Junction in Olmsted Falls.  While our address is 8078 Columbia Road, Peg’s is NOT located on Columbia Road (most of the shops have Columbia Road addresses but are not actually located on Columbia Road).  We are located on the veranda (or porch) between the Depot Barber Shop and the La Blanca Bridal.  Parking is in the back and on the street.
When you are here, there are great other places to visit and you need to be sure to come hungry!  While food and beverages are NOT allowed in the shop, there are many wonderful restaurants in the Grand Pacific Junction and close by, including:

Clementine’s Victorian Restaurant
, a tea house and restaurant (hours: every day 11:00 – 4:00)
Falls Family Restaurant, good home cooked meals (hours: T-Sun: 7:00 – 4:00)
Falls Ice Cream, incredible ice creams (hours: W, T & F: 2:00 – 8:00; Sat/Sun: Noon – 8:00)
Gibbs Butcher & Brew, wonderful pub food, including their own meats (hours: M-T: 11:00 - 9:00; F: 11:00 – 10:00; Sat: Noon - 10:00)
Grand Pacific Popcorn, probably 40 varieties of popcorn, candy, fudge (hours: Sun-W: 11:00–6:00; Th-Sat: 11:00–8:00)
Matteo’s, Italian cuisine (hours: Tu-Th: 11:30-9:00; F-Sa: 11:30-10:00; Su: 4:00-8:00)
Parilya, Filipino cuisine (hours: W-Sa: 11:00 – 8:00; Su: 11:00-7:00)

There are also many other shops that are located at Grand Pacific Junction, including:
The Artists' Colony, L & J Personalization,  Le Gray Haus,  Millstone Mercantile,  Ohio Wick House,  Peg's Knit-N-Spin,  Renee's Unique Boutique & More,  Second Thyme Around and Toys, Dolls and Minis Treasure House of the Falls.
