One Year of Small Steps

Intro: Knitting and crocheting are really awesome for your mental health. It doesn’t matter where you go with them. If you learn only one stitch, that’s fine! You can create wonderful things. If you want to go a step further, and a step further, you can add new colors, cables, mosaic. The possibilities are endless. There is no limit with how far you can go. Whatever you create, at whatever point, you get something beautiful out of it. Something you know that you made with your own two hands!

The ultimate mental health benefit of knitting and crocheting is showing you that small steps can add up to something big. They help you rewire away from the attitude of doing something and getting an immediate response. They are slow and remind you that something positive can come in the long term from these small steps that you take now.

Here at The Pink Lamb’s Yarn Nook, we love seeing all of these small steps come together. We love seeing your WIPs and your beautiful finished projects. The fiber community is full of brilliant ideas and so many ways to express yourself! We are so thankful for the chance to build up this hobby in our community. As we approach our One Year Anniversary, we are taking this time to appreciate all of the wonderful customers and opportunities that the year has brought us. This includes the Yarn Discovery Tour and all of its participants!
Our Yarn: Here at The Pink Lamb we love to carry something for everyone’s fiber journey. We have our own hand-dyed yarn, Calyis Designs. Melissa has been dyeing our yarn for over eight years now! Each colorway is named after a woman of history. We love recognizing all of their amazing accomplishments. Our main base is British BFL, on four different weights. We also dye on a few speciality blends; Merino Cashmere Nylon, Mohair, and Merino Sparkle.

When we opened the store, we added on to our wall of Calyis Designs. We carry Kelbourne Woolens, a collection of quality and affordable yarns. You can find Holst Garn, a wide variety of colors that are perfect for hand or machine knitting. We also have Cascade Yarns, where we carry everything from acrylics to wool and everything in between. Finally, we have added Urth Yarns to our collection, fun self striping yarns!

Our Classes: Classes and Workshops are an amazing way to spread the love of fiber with our customers. During this past year, we have offered a wide variety of options. We have done learn to knit and crochet classes. After that we expanded to different techniques, wearables, and amigurumi. Over the holidays, we offered one day workshops each focusing on a different ornament. A few of these even included English Paper Piecing. One of our favorite workshops was when we hosted was a Yarn Tasting, where we focused on each of the bases of yarns we carry. Currently, Melissa is offering a dyeing workshop where you will get to dye your own unique piece of art! Jessee will be starting Plod the Dinosaur, a super cute dino made with lots of bright colors.
Our Community: Over the past year we have begun a few projects that are are focused on bringing our community together. Our first project this year was our 44203 Hat-A-Thon. We spent the month of October collecting hats to donate to the Barberton and Norton Elementary Schools. This was an awesome event where we received over 125 hats for these lucky kiddos! For our second project, we decided to collect blankets for My Very Own Blanket. These blankets were collected for children who are in the Summit County Foster System. With each blanket made, we were able to give these children something of their very own! We are excited to continue these projects, while adding some more in to help build up the community we are lucky to be a part of!

Conclusion: Melissa, Emmy, and Jessee are so thankful for the opportunities and relationships that have come from The Pink Lamb’s Yarn Nook. This year has brought us many new friendships that we cherish. Thank you for sharing your small steps with us. We hope you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as we have!

I will include a picture for the setup and which picture goes where. All of the pictures are included as an attachment. Thanks for all your hard work on the blog. We’ve been watching it. It looks great!

Jessee
